Literary Magazine!

 It is that time of year!  We are looking for submissions for the Holmes School Literary Magazine.  All student work must be submitted by Monday, March 19, 2012.  

  • Student participation is voluntary, but please consider participating. This is your last chance before your graduate from our school! 
  • Although students may submit a piece that they have created in school or at home, students are limited to submitting one entry

 

Students’ work must fit the following criteria:

  • 400 words or less
  • Typed in Microsoft Word 
  • Single spaced in Times New Roman, 12 pt font 
  • Centered title (using the center justification tool, rather than tabbing) 
  • Students’ first and last name and grade level typed on separate lines at the end of the piece

       Ex. John Smith

            1st Grade

 

Your document must be edited with an adult’s help.

 Spelling and grammar must be corrected.

  

  • Illustrations for pieces can be scanned and e-mailed.  Please make sure that illustrations are clearly labeled with your first and last name and grade level.
  • You may email your pieces to Mrs. Satter at rsatter@darienps.org. A confirmation note will be sent upon receiving all E-mail submissions.

  

Entries must be submitted by Monday, March 19th. Please let me know if you have any questions or need my help. You may also want to ask Miss Nielsen or Miss Satter, because they are in charge!

Weekend Reading Homework

Read narrative texts this weekend! These could be fiction or nonfiction, but either way, please read STORIES.

Remember to use what you know about how narratives tend to go (their structure) to guide your retelling and your thinking about the important elements of what you read. In other words, don’t try to memorize every little fact. Instead, think about the main character, her longings and her desires, her traits, obstacles, and so on…
